Volvo AW72 transmission
An automatic gearbox built by Aisin of Japan used the Volvo 16-valve B234F 4-cylinder engine found in the 740 GLE. This gearbox is a modified
AW71 with different ratios to leverage the unique power curve characteristics produced by the 16-valve head (when compared to the 8-valve B230F/FT with an AW71 gearbox). Some of the B234F-equipped 740's came with a ZF-made gearbox (designated by a gearshift labeled "P R N D 3 2 1"). The AW72 (gearshift labeled "P R N D 2 1" with a side-mounted overdrive lockout) is widely considered significantly more reliable than the ZF transmission.
Volvo M40 transmission
M40 is a gearbox from Volvo used in Volvo Duett, Volvo Valp, Volvo Amazon, Volvo 142 and many more. It is a four speed gearbox. It was also available in s a stronger version called M400 and a three speed version called M30
Volvo M400 transmission
M400 is a gearbox from Volvo used in Volvo 164. It's a stronger version of the M40 gearbox.
Volvo M410 transmission
The M410 gearbox was the overdrive equipped version of Volvo's M400 4-speed transmission. Both M400 and M410 units were featured in Volvo's 6 cylinder engined 164 sedan. M410 gearboxes also appeared briefly in the 1800 for the 1969 model year.
Volvo M46 transmission
M46 is a gearbox made by Volvo, originating from the M41 gearbox, but was modernized in 1979. It is really a M45, but with an extra gearbox on the rear-end, to make a 5th gear. The 5th gear is driven by the outgoing shaft and with help of its own outgoing shaft, it will give a reduction up to 0.797:1. The gearbox has synchro-rings on each gear forward.
Gear-ratios:
•1st: 3.71:1
•2nd: 2.16:1
•3rd: 1.37:1
•4th: 1.0:1
•Overdrive: 0.8:1
Oil amount: 2,3 litres
Oil type: Type F automatic gearbox
